"Is it worth fixing?" treats the repair as the whole cost. It's the visible part. Keeping also costs the next repair, insurance, extra fuel, and value lost while you decide. Replacing costs a payment, Autopac, fuel, a reserve. Two columns, twelve months. Compare.

What we count on the keep side

Last 12 months' repairs; the next 12 won't be gentler. The repair you're bracing for; the model and mileage know it if you don't. Insurance. Fuel at your kilometres and real consumption. Depreciation, about 15% of today's value; repair history speeds it.

What we count on the replace side

True monthly of a vehicle that fits: payment at your tier, your car's value less owing as down payment. Its Autopac. Fuel at your kilometres. A $60 reserve, what a Standard-passed vehicle needs in year one. Winter tires amortized if not included.

What we don't count

Roadside time. The day off. The tow. The January dread. All real, all favour replacing, all left out on purpose. Keeping wins on numbers alone, it wins. Replacing wins before any of that, it wins by more than shown.

If keeping it wins, keep it. We'd rather see you in a year than sell a car you didn't need.

The replacement number is not the payment. $350 a month on a car burning $200 of fuel and needing $1,500 of brakes isn't a $350 car. The calculator uses true monthly, all four inputs. Method published; inputs yours.

The method

Keep, per month = (repairs last 12 months + the repair you're bracing for + insurance × 12 + fuel at your kilometres and consumption + 15% of today's value) ÷ 12.
